RELAY 116 123
ANOTHER SLIGHTLY RIDICULOUS IDEA
1,500 miles.
Two hometowns.
One message.
From Tótkomlós in Hungary to Leeds in England, we’re running across Europe as a husband-and-wife relay to raise money for Samaritans and start conversations about mental health, suicide prevention and asking for help.
What you can’t do alone,
you can do with help.Ask for it. Accept it. Then reach back.

What RELAY means
RELAY isn’t only how we’ll cover around 1,500 miles. It is how the whole message moves forward.
Relay the run
One of us runs while the other supports. Then we swap and continue from exactly where the other stopped.
Relay the message
Ask for help. Accept it. Then reach back when you can.
Relay the number
In the UK and Ireland, 116 123 connects you to Samaritans. Across parts of Europe, this harmonised number reaches local emotional-support services. We’re carrying it from Hungary to Leeds.

THE REASON WE RUN
This isn’t really a story about running around 1,500 miles.
The reason we run
Mental health and suicide prevention aren’t just causes we care about. They have touched our lives and our family in ways that are difficult to put into words.
There have been times in Terri’s life when depression became so overwhelming that she attempted to take her own life. Stephen knows what it is like to experience suicidal thoughts himself.
And then there’s Vivien, Stephen’s daughter. She has faced some incredibly difficult times of her own. There were moments in her life when things became so difficult that she tried to take her own life.
These are three different experiences, each with its own story, but together they are a huge part of why this challenge means so much to us.
We know how difficult it can be to find the words when you’re struggling. We also know what it’s like to love someone who is struggling, wanting desperately to help but not always knowing how.
Sometimes the hardest part is admitting you need somebody. Sometimes it’s learning to accept the help when it comes.
That is why RELAY matters to us.
It’s not really about running 1,500 miles. It’s about what happens when somebody finds the courage to say “I need help” and somebody is there to answer.
We’re carrying that message between the places that shaped us. Through the miles, the handovers and the conversations along the way, we want to help make asking for help feel possible.
FROM HOME. TOWARDS HOME.
From where Stephen grew up to where Terri grew up.
A journey from Tótkomlós to Leeds, crossing Europe one shared day at a time. The route is mapped from home to home, and we’re refining individual sections as we check the safest and most practical way to run them.
Illustrative connection, not a navigational map.
RUN → SUPPORT → SWAP → CONTINUE
We don’t run the whole journey together. We carry each other forward.
RUN
One of us takes on the day’s running, moving the journey forward.
SUPPORT
The other recovers, drives the support vehicle and takes care of the practical side.
SWAP
The next day, we change roles. The runner becomes the support.
CONTINUE
We begin exactly where the previous runner stopped. The journey carries on.
Neither of us carries the whole journey alone.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE MILES
Two hometowns. Two lives. One journey between them.
We’re Stephen and Terri. Hungary is where Stephen grew up. Leeds is where Terri grew up. Now, we’re joining those two places through the thing that has kept us moving: showing up for each other.
Our story includes adventure, difficult days and learning to accept support. This relay is another chapter and an invitation to be part of it.
THERE’S ROOM FOR YOU, TOO
You don’t have to watch from the sidelines.
We’re planning opportunities to join selected sections of RELAY, including shorter distances.
