It’s been almost two weeks since we returned from our week in Spain, and we’re still carrying that post-adventure glow. A mix of calm, gratitude, and that quiet longing to be back on the move again.
On the 20th of October, we boarded the ferry from Dover to Calais, full of excitement to be heading south. Even though life on the road is our every day, there’s still something special about setting off toward a new destination and the feeling of freedom that brings. We arrived in Calais around 11am and was met with rain (great weather to get the miles in)
350 miles later we arrived at a Camping-Car Park in Saint-Pierre-le-Moûtier, a wonderful stop in the French countryside. It was calm, super quiet and only 13 euros a night to unwind after a long drive. Bargain!
The next day, we made our way further south to La Jonquera, just over the Spanish border. It’s not the kind of place that makes it onto postcards, more of a trucking town with large service stations, duty-free shops, and rows of parked lorries lining the roads. But it served its purpose perfectly. After hours on the motorway, it was a convenient and safe stop for the night. A place to rest, refuel, and get ready for the final stretch to our intended destination: Cadaqués.
The following morning, we hit the road once more, and the contrast couldn’t have been greater. The drive to Cadaqués was nothing short of spectacular. Winding mountain roads, glimpses of the Mediterranean sparkling below, and buildings carved into the rock. It was so beautiful!
Arriving at WeCamp Cadaqués felt like a win too. Nestled between rugged hills and the coastline, the campsite was everything we’d hoped for. Lovely staff, clean facilities and views that made you want to linger a little longer each morning.
Cadaqués itself was pure magic. The town’s whitewashed buildings, blue shutters, and cobbled streets gave it a timeless feel. We strolled through narrow lanes that opened suddenly onto the sea, the air filled with the scent of salt and fresh food from the cafés that line the shore. It was simply beautiful and full of quiet charm.
One of our favourite days was the one we spent exploring Barcelona. To make the most of our visit, we hired a car for three days, which made exploring easier and gave us the freedom to go at our own pace.
Seeing the Sagrada Família in person was breathtaking! Its scale, detail, and sense of awe can’t be captured in photos. We also visited the National Art Museum of Catalonia. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it inside either as we had Coco with us but we were happy to admire them from the outside.
After hours of exploring, we treated ourselves to a meal at Veganashi, a vegan sushi restaurant in downtown Barcelona. Fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. It was the perfect way to end a day that reminded us just how full life feels when we’re discovering new places together.
Back at WeCamp, our evenings were slow and peaceful. We’d sip coffee at the on-site restaurant, listen to the waves in the distance, and laugh about the day’s little adventures. Coco even got a much-needed haircut while we were there and she’s been proudly showing it off ever since!
I do want to be honest… while we had so many amazing moments, I did struggle with my mental health at times during this trip. It’s something I want to share in more depth very soon , because these experiences are part of our journey too.
On the 28th of October, we began our journey back to Calais. As the miles rolled by, we reflected on how much that week had given us. Some sunshine, new memories, and a deeper appreciation for the life we live on the road.
Now, nearly two weeks later, the memories still linger. Spain gave us warmth in every sense. From the golden light of Cadaqués to the calm of quiet evenings spent in Peanut. It reminded us that home isn’t a fixed place; it’s wherever we park, breathe, and feel content.
And while not every moment was easy, the trip reminded us that even in the tougher times, there’s beauty to be found, lessons to be learned, and joy to be embraced. Sometimes in the smallest of moments xxx
