Coniston 14: Looking Back on an Incredible Day

Over the last two weeks we have had time to reflect on what an experience Coniston 14 was. This was not our first time running this race but it definitely felt different.

The Buzz of Race Day

There’s something truly special about race day. The nervous excitement, the buzz of over 1,200 runners gathered at the start line, and the electric atmosphere of people all pushing themselves for their own reasons. It’s impossible not to get swept up in it.

Not the Perfect Lead-Up, But We Showed Up

We’d put in the training, but in the two weeks leading up to the race, life got busy, and running took a bit of a backseat. We weren’t sure how the race would go, but we knew one thing: we were going to give it our best and enjoy the experience, no matter what.

That’s one of the biggest lessons running has taught us: you won’t always feel 100% ready, but if you show up and give it all you got, you might just surprise yourself.

Chasing Stephen’s Heels

Before the race, I told Stephen to go for it, not to hold back with me. And he absolutely did. He flew around that course, and I spent the the first half of the race chasing his heels, and before long he was out of sight.

He smashed his personal best, and instead of basking in the achievement for himself, he turned around and ran back to meet me so we could cross the finish line together. That moment summed him up perfectly, determined, supportive, and a beautiful person!

The Perfect Finish

The forecast had us expecting a downpour, but the rain held off until the very moment we crossed the finish line. It was as if the day had saved that final moment for us, making it even more memorable.

Finding Our Fire Again

This race reminded me why I love running. The energy, the camaraderie, the push to keep going when it gets tough, there’s nothing quite like it. More than anything, it’s reignited our motivation.

We’re ready to get back into training, push ourselves even further, and see where the next challenge takes us.

Coniston 14 was more than just a race, it was a reminder of why we do this. And I can’t wait for what’s next.

What an amazing day!
